One of the things I really liked is the lack of level crossings making this more of a bikers trail than a walking trail with a lot of trail where you will only see bikes for a few miles. But I could see this being pretty spectacular in the Fall, and its very quiet and peaceful. Ive been riding this trail weekly since June 2021. Trail in fine shape. My estimate is that trail will be mostly shady before noon but will be lots of sun in the afternoon. If the state paves the disused Maybrook train line from Brewster to Hopewell Junction, thetwenty-two mile gap in the Empire State Trail can easily close. Other than that, it was a lovely way to spend a summer afternoon. Rode from the Walkway Over The Hudson to Hopewell Junction (for lunch) and back on a sunny September Saturday.
